Contract Value:£500 000

Completion: April 2018

Description

Demolition and complete reconstruction and extension of Allmond Centre Pavilion in Cowfold, West Sussex to form Football Association-compliant sports pavilion and community facility.

Works included timber construction and cladding, pitched roofing, timber framed double glazing, kitchen/WC works and audio visual systems including a high-definition projector and surround sound, and sports change areas.

Key Challenges

Crime Minimisation

  • Mesh Heras Fencing was used so that any intruders could be seen inside the compound.

  • PIR Security Lights were used to protect the site area.We proposed and installed a DECRA Roofing System to minimise risk of theft of slate or concrete roofing tiles, and to provide a lower whole life cost to the roof, especially to protect from cricket balls and other sports-related projectiles.

Environmental Management

  • Preserving Existing Structure. Oak tree roots were encroaching upon the works area. If we were to totally demolish and rebuild the pavilion, new foundations would be required and would have damaged these valuable trees. We kept the existing structure in these areas, keeping costs down and working in harmony with nature.

Minimal Disruption to Local Community

  • Deliveries were arranged to minimise traffic, especially aiming to avoid large articulated vehicles wherever possible. We delivered materials to our warehouse just down the road from the site so that materials could be stored and delivered by smaller vehicles just-in-time, rather than storing on-site or running the risk of late delivery.

Completion on-time and on-budget.

  • Regular cost reports kept the client apprised of the financial position of the project, and extras were clearly costed and documented.

Innovation

Hot/Cold Water System. We carried out thorough calculations for the hot water to the showers to ensure that during winter time, the return rate for the heating system to reheat the

storage tank again in time for the next team was sufficient.

DECRA Roofing System was installed to minimise risk of damage to the roof from cricket balls and risk of theft.

Building Management  System was installed to monitor interior environment (humidity, etc) and manage air handling and heating systems to suit.
